This is Canaletes, the fountain where the
Barcelona Football Club fans go to celebrate victories. Smaller than you thought, uhm?

Do you want to know how this tradition started and
why is it that they haven’t chosen somewhere bigger or emblematic?
In 1930 there was “La Rambla”, a newspaper, subtitled Sports and Citizens, that had its offices in the building in front of where the fountain is now. Back then, because of the distance and due to not everybody had radios, it was quite difficult to know the results of the football matches, even more if the team played as visitor.
With that in mind, the people working at the newspaper
would write the scores on a blackboard and hang it outside the office, so
everybody could see it. Loads of culés
would gather there to read the scores of the Football Club Barcelona and, if it
had won, they would, for sure, celebrate it right there, at the fountain.
That’s how the tradition, still valid even now,
started. Since then, all the Football Club Barcelona fans meet up at Canaletes
to celebrate their team’s victories.
